Composition:
Each capsule contains: 300mg Red rice
yeast 1%, making 3mg lovastain
Action:
Red yeast rice is rice that has been
fermented by the red yeast, Monascus purpureus. It contains
several compounds collectively known as Monacolins, substances
known to inhibit cholesterol synthesis. One of these, "Monacolin
K" is a potent inhibitor of HMG-CoA reductase, and is
also known as Mevinolin or Lovastatin. Red yeast rice in the
past reduced cholesterol levels because it contained (among
many other chemicals), one of the statin drugs, namely lovastatin.
(The statin drugs are the most effective cholesterol-lowering
agents used in medicine today. They were originally derived
from yeast products.) It lowers blood levels of total cholesterol,
low-density lipoprotein/LDL ("bad cholesterol"),
and triglyceride levels.
It is believed that those other monacolins,
unsaturated fatty acids, and anti-oxidants in red yeast rice
may work together favorably with lovastatin to enhance its
cholesterol-lowering effects, as well as its ability in lowering
triglycerides and increasing HDL cholesterol. (HDL is considered
the "good" form of cholesterol since high levels
of HDL cholesterol protect against heart attacks.)
Indication:
Effective for reducing cholesterol
and blood lipid without any side effect Package: 120
capsules per bottle
